It looks like the rumors about a DCEU Superman sequel with Henry Cavill once again reprising his role as the titular Man of Steel were well-founded after all.
Although the only evidence available at the time of our last article on the matter was basically the former “Birth. Movies. Death” editor-in-chief’s insider information that upcoming Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson/The Rock “demanded” that Man of Steel 2 with Henry Cavill returning to the role become reality, the latest news from The Hollywood Reporter further corroborates said scoop.
The report alludes to the very poorly kept secret that Cavill is expected to make a Superman cameo in Black Adam, as well as the fact that Johnson’s agent and former wife, Dany Garcia also represents Cavill via Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions company — making the scenario of Cavill’s return through Johnson’s negotiations much more plausible.
“The studio’s eyes are very much on Superman,” the report states. “Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warners has an intense desire to reprise the Cavill iteration of the hero. The project that would essentially be Man of Steel 2 is being produced by Charles Roven [of The Dark Knight Trilogy and Suicide Squad fame] and is currently in a search for writers.”
