Will Poulter wasn’t an actor known for his physical prowess before beefing up for the role of the genetically created super-being Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is why when Poulter was tasked with having to punch six-time WWE World Champion and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner Dave Bautista in the face for a scene he was understandably nervous.
“We’re doing this fight sequence and I grew up watching Dave [Bautista] — as a wrestler and then as an actor — I’m a bit nervous,” Poulter said on a. “I haven’t done a ton of fight choreography. Anyway, we’re doing this fight scene and I accidentally punched Dave straight in the face.”
The fight scene Poulter is likely talking about is this, by the way:
Luckily for Poulter, Bautista was “whisked away” by a wire after he landed the punch, which means Bautista wasn’t able to retaliate or deliver a receipt (A “receipt” is a wrestling term that signifies a wrestler delivering a more forceful or harsher move than what was originally planned, often in response to a mistake or perceived infraction by their opponent). He realized he really had punched Bautista in the face when he soon “caught a glimpse” of the 6’4,” 240-pound Drax the Destroyer actor being attended to by makeup artists to get rid of the “big gold fist mark” covering his eye — a result of Poulter’s Warlock character being covered in gold paint.
“You realize when you do films,” Poulter told Jonathan Ross, “you’re so much better off handing over to the stunt people.”
What’s next for Adam Warlock in the MCU? Though there’s no official date or movie set for the character’s return, the post-credits scene saw the character fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon and his furry F’saki pet Blurp in a newly formed Guardians of the Galaxy squad, so wherever the Guardians make their return to the big screen Warlock is sure to be there as well.
As a character who was featured prominently in the comics in the ’90s, we agree with our friends at Retbit in that we’d love to see Warlock feature as a playable character in the upcoming retro, side-scrolling brawler game Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

Poulter too has expressed his interest in returning as Adam Warlock in the MCU.
“Oh, dude, I’d love it. I had so much fun playing my character, and so, yeah, if they come calling, I’m definitely picking up,” he told Comicbook.com.
