Despite saying that he’d be willing to do a Penguin Season 2 if the showrunners and himself come to terms with a compelling enough premise, lead actor Colin Farrell also said there’s “no rush” for him to return as the HBO produced/Max streaming series’ main character, who goes primarily by the name “Oz” rather than his Gotham City crimelord cognomen, The Penguin.
“I don’t want it. I don’t not want it,” he told Variety’s Marc Malin backstage after Sunday’s 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he won in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series category. “We all left it in the ring in those eight hours. I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively. So I’m in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it. … Sure, if they think of something that works in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open. But it’s not something concerning me.”

While he’s Farrell says he’s ‘in no rush’ for ‘The Penguin Season 2,’ he’s also deeply grateful and still in awe at the fact that he’s been able to take up the mantle of the iconic Batman villain.
“I was six, seven, eight or nine, watching Meredith Burgess as the Penguin on ‘Batman,’” Farrell continued. “If you would have told that six-, seven- or eight-, nine-year-old, ‘You’re going to play that character someday. And you know the Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ video? You’re going to have the makeup done by a student of the guy, Rick Baker, who did that makeup on Michael Jackson.’ It’s just madness. So these moments are beautiful. I’m very grateful for them. And this show has been extraordinarily thrilling.”
Are you surprised that Colin Farrell says he’s ‘in no rush’ for ‘The Penguin Season 2’? Do you think a second season of The Penguin is necessary, or would you rather see Farrell appear as Oz/The Penguin in the next Matt Reeves Batman movie?
