Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth and final installment in the Indiana Jones franchise may not have been the box office success that Harrison Ford, who has played the titular character since 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, hoped for but he’s not letting his final go as the adventuring archaeologist get under his skin.
“S— happens,” he told The Wall Street Journal Magazine. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny cost Disney an estimated $387.2 million to make (not including promotion). The film made only $384 million at the worldwide box office, and though the numbers might not seem like that big of a hit, the company is estimated to have lost $143 million on the film.
Ford’s two most famous roles, Indiana Jones and Han Solo from Star Wars may be in his rearview mirror, but that doesn’t mean the 82-year-old actor is resting on his considerable laurels. He’ll be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe premiere later this month as Incredible Hulk and Captain America nemesis General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, a role he says is an honor to play, as well as new genre for him to try his hand at.
“I’d like to think the character was a great fit for me,” Ford said at a recent press conference for the film. “I was honored to be able to do my work on top of a foundation that a wonderful actor, Bill Hurt, provided for the character.”
Ford admits that he signed on for Brave New World without even reading the script first. “Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time.”

“I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk,” Ford added jokingly of his character’s gamma radiation infused alter ego. “Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing.”
