Part of Spider-Man’s lasting appeal since his first appearance all the way back in 1962 is his inimitable appearance, particularly his iconic costume. He’s donned a number of memorable costumes over the years as well, such as his traditional red and blue suit; the sleek, black Symbiote suit (which eventually spawned his arch-nemesis, Venom); the gunmetal grey Spider-Armor MK I; the Iron Spider armor seen in the Civil War crossover and even the Sensational Spider-Man suit, worn by Spider-Clone Ben Reilly. Will we soon be adding another iconic new Spider-Man costume to the mix with the upcoming reveal in Amazing Spider-Man #61?
The new Spider-Man costume to be revealed in Amazing Spider-Man #61 was designed by Dustin Weaver, who attained much of his renown at Image Comics’ imprint Wildstorm Studios, as well as at Dark Horse Comics, where he worked extensively on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. At Marvel he has worked on both Edge of Spider-Verse and the 5-issue series Infinity Gauntlet: Warzones.
“This design was really a collaborative effort between Nick Spencer, Editor Nick Lowe, and I,” Weaver said in a Marvel Comics press release. “They reined in the weirder and more tech-y features I was bringing and helped create something that I think is simple and both futuristic and classical. I can’t wait to see [fellow artist] Patrick Gleason really bring it to life!”
The new Spider-Man costume swaps out the blue and red of the OG Spider-Man costume for a technology-based look, with sleek, grey metal, blue trim and what appears to be illuminate orange, glowing segments on the torso and legs, including the glowing, orange eye-lenses.
After the new Spider-Man costume is revealed in Amazing Spider-Man #61, the following issues, Amazing Spider-Man #62 and #63 respectively will see Spider-Man in his new suit squaring off against the forces of the Kingpin. Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel:
> Following the traumatic events of “Sin’s Rising,” Peter Parker will wear this new suit for his face-off against Kingpin in the next arc of writer Nick Spencer’s hit run. Discover the mystery behind this top-secret costume when AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #61 and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #62 swing into shops this March!
All three issues (Amazing Spider-Man #61, 62 and 63) will be written by Nick Spencer, drawn by Patrick Gleason and feature variant covers (as pictured above) by Dustin Weaver.
