If you’re a fan of Robotech, Transformers, Voltron, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers or one of your favorite scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was when Tony Stark suited up in the specially-designed Hulkbuster Iron Man armor to take on an enraged Hulk or… well, you really, really like mechs — Marvel’s upcoming crossover, Avengers: Mech Strike is right up your biometabolic stabilizer.
Avengers: Mech Strike, written by Jed MacKay (Black Cat) and drawn by Carlos Magno (Fantastic Four, Empyre: Avengers) will serve as the introductory chapter to an epic narrative that will unfold over the next year.
Mech Strike initiative, activate.

“We’re going for non-stop, full-bore action, with a lineup of Avengers favorites going up against an unexpected new foe… that might end up being quite familiar!” MacKay said in a statement from Marvel. “Aliens, robots, dinosaurs, Martians… it’s going to get worse before it gets better for our heroes.
When asked what might be the impetus for the Avengers gearing up in individualized mechs, MacKay said, “The Avengers come up against something that defies their usual methods, new tools are needed for the job: giant robot suits. It’s been a blast to take on the Avengers and really put them in the thick of it. When you’re dealing with the Avengers, everything is big. Big action. Big stakes. And now, big robots!”
As far as who will be suiting up, from what we can glean off the cover from renowned robot artist Kei Zama (Transformers: Optimus Prime, Death’s Head: Clone Drive) and his Avengers: Mech Strike cover, it looks like Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor and more will all be rocking their very own mechs. Which makes us wonder: why do Hulk and Thor need mech-suits? And why does Tony Stark have them designed already? Will Thor’s control over lightning and handle on Mjolnir actually be augmented by armor? What about the Hulk’s anger-fueled strength? Will being imprisoned inside a suit of armor make the Hulk angrier and thus stronger? Or will he simply smash through his robotic shell in a fit of rage?
The answer to these questions (hopefully) and more will be revealed when Avengers: Mech Strike is released for all formats in February 2021.
